Ingredients
1 cup butter, softened1-1/2 cups sugar2 large eggs, room temperature1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon anise extract3 cups all-purpose flour1 to 1-1/2 teaspoons aniseed1 teaspoon salt1 teaspoon baking powder1 teaspoon baking sodaOptional: Frosting of choice and sprinkles
Preparation
Preheat oven to 375°. In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy, 5-7 minutes. Beat in eggs and extract. Combine the flour, aniseed, salt, baking powder and baking soda; gradually add to creamed mixture and mix well.
Shape into 1-in. balls; place on greased baking sheets. Dip the bottom of glass in sugar; use to flatten cookies.Bake for 8-10 minutes or until set. Cool on wire racks. If desired, decorate cookies with frosting and sprinkles.
