That’s where our friends at Apeel come in. Ever had fruits and veggies go bad on you before you’ve had the chance to eat or use them? Our clever friends at Apeel have developed a way to help fix that. Their plant-based coating amazingly doubles the lifespan of produce, keeping fruits and vegetables fresher for longer, like the crunchy, juicy, bright-citrusy organic Granny Smiths used in this recipe. Apeel is actually inspired by nature’s own technology: the peels and skins that protect everything from asparagus to apples. Apeel’s plant-based solution comes from materials found in the skins, peels, and seeds of plants, and acts like “a little extra peel” to slow down spoilage without using harmful chemicals. It’s pretty exciting stuff. FYI: You can find Apeel produce at your local grocer, and enjoy avocados, limes, and organic apples that last twice as long. Apeel is a sustainable way to help preserve our produce and our planet: By cutting down on food waste, we can maximize efficient water and land use and minimize greenhouse gas emissions. Less waste in the kitchen means money saved for us home cooks, less food dumped into landfills, and overall less energy and resources wasted in the process. Who knew that buying the right apple could help fight climate change? Watch the video above to see me do a taste test of Apeel produce and bake a picture-perfect apple tart that tastes even better than it looks.
