Ingredients
32 water chestnuts
8 slices bacon, cut into quarters
3 tbsp. maple syrup
2 tbsp. packed brown sugar
1/4 tsp. smoked paprika
1/4 tsp. ground cumin
1/4 tsp. garlic powder
Honey mustard, for serving
Preparation
Step 1Preheat oven to 400°. Lay a water chestnut on top of a piece of bacon; wrap to enclose, securing with a toothpick. Transfer to a parchment-lined rimmed baking sheet.Step 2In a small bowl, whisk together maple syrup, brown sugar, paprika, cumin, and garlic powder. Brush wrapped water chestnuts all over with maple mixture. Step 3Bake until bacon is crisp and golden, about 20 minutes. Step 4Serve warm with honey mustard for dipping.
Sticky, crisp, and crunchy, with the neutral flavor of the water chestnut soaking up the sweetness of the syrup and brown sugar and the savory notes of the garlic powder, herbs, and spices, these are a surefire winner. Go wild with the dipping sauces; we suggest honey-mustard, but really, anything would work! Want more bacon-wrapped appetizers? Candied Bacon Smokies are always a hit! Have you made these yet?
