5 slices bread, such as white, whole wheat, or sourdough

Step 1Preheat oven to 300°F. Tear bread into pieces and place in a food processor. Pulse until fine crumbs form. Some slightly larger pieces are okay. Step 2Transfer breadcrumbs to a large baking sheet. Bake until lightly golden and dry, about 20 minutes. Let cool completely before using. Breadcrumbs can be stored in an airtight container for up to 2 weeks.

A quick way to fancy these up is to fry them in a tablespoon or two of butter with a few cloves of grated garlic for some addictive, crunch and toasty garlic breadcrumbs.
